btc 300x201 TMOD for OXFAM at the MCA :: An acronymatic dream

Georgie and Milenka of TMOD are this weekend involved in OXFAM’s “Footprints” exhibition, considering global warming and its affects on our community and environment.

These lovely ladies have created a burning candle installation, melting across the running of the exhibit, to represent rising sea levels as glaciers and icebergs melt.

Neighbourhood Watch

March 12th, 2009

neighbourhood watch invitation1 Neighbourhood Watch

With a notebook, dictaphone and camera in hand, Sonya Gee explored the City of Ryde, searching out tiny stories of the people who live and work there, the kinds of people you can’t google. She hung out with them, took some photos and has written their stories, everyone from 12 year old primary school captains (they drank cordial after school) to the very shy local baker.

The project was done in reaction to the highly aggressive 2007 Federal election campaign, with the City of Ryde falling into the electorate of Bennelong. With Maxine McKew determined to unseat standing Prime Minister John Howard, the door knocking and shopping center apperances were relentless and the community became highly mobilised politcally. This was an attempt to show that the community exists independent of political campaigns.

Supported by the local council, it was also a legitimate way to get paid to take tea and biscuits with op shop ladies!

Opening on March 25 from 6.30pm at the Brush Farm House gallery, 19 Lawson St, Eastwood

“Wherever I sat, there might I live, and the landscape radiated from me accordingly.” - Henry David Thoreau, Walden.

Our friend Robert (aka Bob) is having a solo exhibition next Friday March 20 at the Trophy Room Gallery, 545 South Dowling St, Surry Hills. We think you’ll particularly enjoy this one if you’re green minded.

Opening Friday February 27, 6 - 8pm

Martorell is a Melbourne based artist who’s work examines biological form and its applications to the creation of sound based drawings and sculpture, influenced by his work as a musician (Snawklor, The Hi God People).

Martorell’s process based methodology uses the gallery as a combination of workshop and social meeting space where the gallery area is used as the basis for a variety of improvised collaborations and performances.

Using the concept of transforming plant algorithms into musical scores, ‘Stolon Tonals’ inhabits an imagined musical Diaspora where the rhythms and structures of nature give form to a series of architectural models, sound works, costumes, prints and drawings.

This is Dylan Martorell’s first solo show in Sydney. He has previously shown internationally in both solo and group shows, in London and New York.
